Athletes aid quadraplegic orphan in Ohio

Dan McCormack, 16, Beavercreek High sophomore, was hit by a car six months ago leaving him quadraplegic with $20,000 in medical bills. Adolph Rupp and hydroplane champion Dean Chenoweth boosted spirits and funds, raising $1,200 at a spaghetti dinner and organizing a week of events. Chenoweth also secured a heat in the World Hydroplane Championship in Madison, Indiana, named for McCormack. The boy, now in a Xenia rest home, receives ongoing therapy with support from his sister and fast-friend Chenoweth, who brought his hydroplane The Notre Dame to inspire him.
