Union County 911 board may aid sheriff over year end

Union County 911 dispatch board may aid the sheriff’s department through year end as the board of commissioners prepares to cut 10 percent from each county office. Board member and Commissioner Bill Jackson said no official action has been taken but a verbal agreement exists to help ensure 24 hour dispatch coverage for about 17 000 residents. Jackson notes the board cannot loan funds and would hire staff on an as needed basis with eventual reimbursement by the sheriff. Sheriff Jim Nash fears conditions will worsen before improving despite anticipated public safety tax funds and a renegotiated dispatch contract.
