Saddam to be handed to Iraqi government in two weeks
The United States plans to transfer Saddam Hussein and all detainees to Iraq’s new government within the next two weeks as sovereignty is restored. Iyad Allawi said the transfer will occur with the power handover, while up to 5,000 prisoners remain under coalition custody and some 1,400 could be released or moved to Iraqi authorities. Saddam’s fate, including possible trial, remains undated.
