Ogilvie scheme blamed for $25 million taxpayer cost
Illinois Democrats condemn Ogilvie administration plans to have the Building Authority issue a $20 million bond to buy schools from the commission and a $10 million revenue issue for future construction. They argue the move diverts funds from general revenue and costs taxpayers. The dispute centers on financing 26 Chicago area schools built by the School Building Commission and the effect on local districts repaying over 18 or 19 years. The plan would fund vocational facilities at Danville and Alton.
