Draft deferment bill clears Senate ahead of possible law change
A compromise draft bill to defer undergraduate college students and prioritize 19 year olds for induction nears passage in Congress. The proposal would run four years from July 1 and alter the Selective Service Act of 1948 while a separate railroad strike bill also advances. After Senate approval the measure heads to the President for signature.
