SIU eyes storage to free Morris Library space
SIU Carbondale seeks more room for Morris Library and other cramped programs as state funds for new buildings shrink. A 30,000 square foot prefabricated storage shed on McLafferty Road could house older periodicals, freeing seating for about 2,000 students. The plan requires SIU trustees and IBHE approval with an estimated $1.6 million cost. Local options include other area buildings andDu Quoin Coca Cola plant, while a space study by Purdue consultants may guide reallocations to ease crowding.
