Museum Opens At Pinckneyville Threshermen Show
Don Karpel and William Douglas operate an Advance Runnery steam traction engine from 1919 at the American Thresherman Association museum in Pinckneyville. About 100 pieces of old farm machinery are on display during a free summer open, with lectures by association members. The museum dedication was held Sunday with Harold B. Steele of the Illinois Farm Bureau as guest speaker.

Showers May Arrive With Cooler Air Tonight
An extended Southern Illinois forecast indicates a shift from hot and dry to cool and wet as a cold front approaches from the north south line near Wausau Wisconsin to Amarillo Texas. Lou Ditzler says showers and possible thunder showers may arrive tonight with temperatures in the 60s and a rise in rain through Tuesday and Wednesday.

Mrs Barbara Kennett 37 of Carmi drowned Sunday while swimming with friends in a gravel pit pond east of Carmi. She vanished below the water about 7 30 a m as three companions watched. Authorities reported the incident.

Butler family bikes 1300 miles to Philadelphia for Bicentennial
Jerry Butler a 34 year old Carbondale graduate and his children Kinsey 12 and Kyle 11 plus nephew Tab 13 rode from Little Rock to Southern Illinois then plan a 1300 mile ride to Philadelphia for the Fourth of July. They endured rain gear needed, a snapped bike frame welded by a passerby and about 60 mile daily legs with camping gear and a week in Southern Illinois.

The Rev. R. N. Sanders family from Carbondale attended a reunion in Florissant for his grandmother’s 94th birthday. On leaving, his parents, J. B. and Mrs. Sanders of Memphis, were struck near the gathering, injuring both. Laurie Sanders, 8, was unharmed. Mrs. Sanders remained in serious condition at Christian Hospital Northeast.
