Butler Seeks Loyalty Rules To Protect 1952 Nominee
Democratic National Committee Chairman Paul M. Butler seeks new rules to guarantee the party’s 1952 convention nominee appears on all state ballots. Proposals would require state committees to place nominees on ballots and declare each national committee member must defend the convention nominee or face possible removal. The plan aims to prevent a repeat loyalty oath dispute and preserve party unity.
