Golden Years for Coal Indicated at National Assn Meeting
President L C Campbell told the National Coal Association convention that coal may be entering its golden years after a swift revival from a 1953 decline. He cited production rising from 392 million tons in 1954 to 470 million in 1955 and projected 500 to 520 million tons this year, noting growing demand and the need for capital to modernize capacity. Strikes have dwindled, aiding supply reliability, and Tom Pickett predicted coal will share more in the expanding energy market due to electric generation steel production and chemicals demand.
