Illinois House Delays $1 Airline Ticket Levy Bill

A House Republican postponed a tax measure after failing to secure enough votes. Rep. Flaymond Kahoun of Chicago proposed a $1 levy on all airline tickets in Illinois, estimating about $18 million yearly. Critics warned the plan could be unconstitutional for taxing interstate and intrastate tickets. Despite gains on earlier bills, lawmakers did not advance any sales tax broadening measures.
