SIU C announces two campus facility namings. The General Classrooms Building will honor Oy J. Rehn, first dean of the business unit, while Faner Humanities Building auditorium becomes the Harry T. Moore Lecture Hall in honor of the late D. H. Lawrence scholar. Trustee approval came at the Springfield meeting.

Murphysboro school talks canceled amid schedule clash
Murphyford Unit School District 186 and the Murphysboro Education Association canceled Thursday night negotiation session by mutual agreement due to a conflict. The next session is set for June 23 at the unit district office. They are working on a 1982-83 contract. a one year contract expires this year.

Williamson jail substandard per state inspection findings
A state inspection of Williamson County Jail lists 11 deviations from corrections standards. The 12 year old facility is space constrained for 16 inmates though housed about 30 daily, with inadequate visiting days, lack of library services, no formal conduct rules, no emergency power, and improper over the counter drug handling. Recommendations urge cap at 16, refinish toilets, and improvements noted include hiring two full time female jailers, a grand jury inspection, and status offenders no longer detained.
