Steel export finding fuels trade war talk

Legislature backs partial closing of state mental health centers
Springfield AP The General Assembly approved Gov. James R Thompson’s plan to close three state mental health centers by voting 90 to 75 to retain about 1.4 million dollars in the budget for improvements at receiving facilities. About half a dozen centers would take patients from Dixon Adler in Champaign and Bowen in Harrisburg as the bill proceeds to Thompson. Lawmakers opposing the plan aimed to block funding for renovations at the receiving centers.
