Voice print expert backs Nasser on tape study
The New York Times reports physicist Lawrence G. Kersta analyzed a taped telephone conversation between Egypt's President Nasser and King Hussein of Jordan. Kersta, president of Voice Print Laboratories, said the voice matches Nasser with high certainty, after a study commissioned by the London Daily Telegraph. He declined further comment. Ball of Telegraph said Kersta worked overnight and had U.S. State Department approval. The technique relies on visual sonic patterns rather than deciphering words.

Middle East crisis in UN May keep Sinai tensions boiling
Ralph H. Johnson analyzes why Soviet and other powers push to keep the Middle East issue alive in the UN Security Council. Despite cease-fire unanimity, enforcing truce and a lasting peace remain elusive as Syria and Soviet diplomats press harsh critiques while Israel and Arab states maneuver. Russia faces tarnished prestige as Sinai armament remains a strategic counterweight to U.S. and Israeli forces.
