Energy funds questioned over use by Illinois agency
Illinois energy chief Sidney Marder acknowledged two men on energy funds earned over 19 000 each while doing work not tied to energy. One, Michael Adsit, reportedly assisted Governor Walker and performed other political tasks though Marder said he was mainly a liaison. State records show money also paid for a butler, a singer and a pianist at a state dinner for Sumatra's governor, prompting questions from Rep. Joe Lucco and cautious support from Sen. John Knuppel as budget details for the energy division show a 618 000 appropriation amid a 737 000 operations budget.

Summer school enrollment drops in several districts
Summer enrollment fell sharply in multiple districts after the state Board of Education halted reimbursements. In Peoria enrollment plummeted from 5,000 to about 500 with tuition and materials at 55 per course. Decatur saw 1,453 of 6,000 prior attendees enrolled. Smaller districts abandoned summer programs amid missing state figures.
