House Fight Shapes Up On Dixon Yates Project

Washington June 10 AP The House Appropriations Committee drew lines for a major fight over the Dixon Yates power project. It sent to the House floor a bill to fund government power agencies for the fiscal year starting July 1 totaling 1 282 116 242 while rejecting 62 million for a Dixon Yates to TVA line and earmarking funds to start a new Fulton TVA plant. The move could strand the Dixon Yates plant’s power outlet and shift to TVA generation, promising a hot floor fight with partisan support. The panel also cut overall Eisenhower agency requests for big power projects by 28 percent while noting many cuts are in paper reallocations rather than new cash.
