Understanding Rain Odds in Weather Forecasts
Weather expert Dayne Horsley explains that an 80 percent chance of rain is not a guarantee and depends on many variables. Forecasts use grids and multiple measurements to calculate probabilities, with local forecasters adjusting based on region and conditions.

Major changes shaped the Southern Illinoisan since 1947
The Southern Illinoisan emerged in 1947 from the merger of the Carbondale Free Press Murphysboro Daily Independent and a third paper. Edward Lindsay spearheaded the three-town printing venture, with central printing in Carbondale by 1949 and full identically dated editions by 1950. The masthead shed town names in 1953, added a Sunday paper in 1953, endured two union strikes, and moved offices in 1967. A 1977 shift from hot metal to computer print-outs marked technological progression.
