James C. Trobaugh dies long-time SIU bookstore manager

James Carl Tubby Trobaugh 72 of 519 N Almond St Carbondale died at Memorial Hospital Carbondale at 5 am Saturday June 8 1985. He led the University Bookstore at SIU Carbondale Student Center from 1942 until his retirement in 1973 after starting his book business in 1938. He served in World War II and was active in Mount Pleasant Methodist Church. He married Marion Horn in 1938. she died in 1978. Surviving are two sons Joseph C and James W, a brother Earl, and three grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are by Huffman Funeral Home.

Tamaroa Man Dies In Collision North Of Ashley

Perry County man Jesse Thompson 44 of Tamaroa died when his pickup struck the rear of a stopped truck at a U S 51 crossing near Ashley as flashing signals failed to deter him. The other driver Arthur McGheehon 34 escaped injury. Thompson had served as a correctional officer and deputy sheriff in Perry County and was a Navy veteran. Funeral arrangements were announced.

Police arrest two in Herrin theft and related cases

Police say Arthur L. Triplett 34 and Michael Hennen 29 both of Herrin were arrested Thursday morning in a case involving more than 5000 dollars of tools stolen from Terry Jeralds residence on 16th Street. Triplett faces burglary theft and property damage charges while Hennen is charged with possession of stolen property.

Marion man improving after cliff fall at Ferne Clyffe

Tracy Pritchett a 19 year old Marion man who fell 40 to 60 feet into a pool at Ferne Clyffe State Park on May 28 was moved from intensive care to a satisfactory condition at St Louis University Hospital by Friday. Hospital officials said he is progressing after head injuries sustained in the fall. He was rescued from the water by friends and emergency crews including Johnson County Ambulance Service park personnel and sheriff's deputies.
