Murphysboro Jacket Plant Tops Company Production
Murphysboro's Cal Crest Outerwear plant moved to the company’s No. 1 rank after a 1970 expansion and higher output. The plant produced 400,000 jackets in 1970, employs 230 people, and adopted fused labels to speed custom orders while expansion prospects remain strong. The chamber noted upgrades include a 6 inch water line and property trades with Jackson County for relocating the county highway garage, and the membership drive reached 308 toward a 1971 goal of 450.
