Murphysboro police investigator Curtis Ehlers ties the December shooting of 17 year old Kameron Allison in Carbondale to a recent fatal Carbondale shooting of a 23 year old. Robert Jackson was convicted of first degree murder in December. Detected connections involve Maurice L. Harper and Daron L. Woods. Ehlers says the motive is undetermined and rumors about gangs and drugs are not confirmed. He calls the cases related and ongoing.
Carbondale Murphysboro and Marion police dogs Tommy Maverick and their handlers earned individual and team honors at the K-9 Olympics in Muncie Indiana. It was the first year of competition for the departments and the dogs trained at Vohne Liche Kennels with the Muncie Police Department hosting.
Kathleen Sellami, then 15, injured while jumping on a trampoline at a friend's home, sued the host and trampoline maker ICON Health. The Illinois Supreme Court held a reasonable 15 year old would know the danger of rocket jumping, absolving the host and manufacturer of duty to warn. The ruling frames liability for recreational trampoline injuries and limits parents and hosts' responsibility.
26 year old Benton resident Scott Mabry was found under a derailed train after a long passage over him near East Webster Street. Police say Mabry had been drinking and passed out between the rails enroute from a bar to Fairland Street, surviving a 72 car train ordeal.
Details emphasize private railroad property and trespass penalties with warnings to avoid tracks and tunnels. Fatalities since 1990 exceed 5,000 on rights of way. Mabry was ambulance transported to Franklin Hospital then airlifted to Barnes Jewish in St. Louis, hospitalized five weeks with major internal injuries. See Mabry page 2A.
