Led by Ron and Victoria Clark the 65 member effort seeks 24 additional towns to run similar fundraisers and donate proceeds from services at the Clark Building in Marion. Trees' value to reclamation touted at SIU conference

Weather deals heavy blow to farms in Southern Illinois
In a year needing good weather for prices and drought recovery, Southern Illinois farmers lag due to heavy rains, delaying corn and soybean planting while much of the rest of the state moves ahead. State crop data show 78% corn planted in southeast Illinois and 38% soybean progress there, with faster progress elsewhere. Officials warn later planting may cut yields, and drier days could come soon as rainfall eases.
