Theodore L. Cowen 76 of Grand Tower died Tuesday at St Joseph’s Hospital Murphysboro after a two month illness. A retired electrical engineer for Central Illinois Public Service Co he joined IOOF Lodge and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Born December 25 191? in Trouquois South Dakota he was a bachelor and leaves a cousin Mrs Dephane Hammond Bitchell. Funeral at 2 pm Thursday in the Vay National Chapel.

Prison Term Begun by Mrs Hymice Geiger
Mrs Hymice Geiger left Woodbury county jail to begin a 15 year federal sentence for a $2 million embezzlement from Sheldon National Bank. She was moved toward Alderson Federal Women’s Prison in West Virginia, with services at Grand Tower Funeral Chapel. Burial at Mapleswood Cemetery in Iroquois followed.

30 Register At Barge Meet
Over 30 participants from as far as New York attended a Southern Illinois University course on barge loading and unloading at the Ly-Mart Hotel in Herrin. The registrants will hear lectures by representatives of barge and terminal industries. The course is sponsored by the SIU Transportation Institute and the Division of Technical and Adult Education.

Randolph County Board of Commissioners appointed two justices of the peace to fill vacancies for Chester area. Louis Segar and Charles F. Koehler will serve until the county election in November, when the county shifts to the township plan used in April elections. Moeller operates a variety store and was an alderman hopeful in April.
