AFL-CIO study flags pension fund mismanagement
A AFL-CIO Industrial Union Department study charges widespread mismanagement of union pension portfolios over the last decade. It claims investments often underperform compared with savings accounts and notes possible conflicts of interest with banks serving the same firms that receive large loans. Union leader Jacob Sheinkman calls for greater pension oversight to boost domestic job creation and keep funds from leaving the country.
