Petitions oppose sale of Du Quoin reservoir and waterworks
Mayor says council has taken no formal action on rumors of selling the city lake and waterworks. A petition with more than 3,000 names opposed any sale, urging retention, while the council only approved test drillings by Consolidation Coal Co. for coal prospects. The mayor said disposition would require bid public auction and city improvements, noting the reservoir is non profit and north of the city with 80 to 100 leased sites.
