Millions behind pipes as SIU builds five buildings

Plumbers and pipe fitters Local 160 in Carbondale and Murphysboro oversee a $5 million construction program at Southern Illinois University. Two major four story structures will use about 55,000 feet of piping plus hundreds of fittings and fixtures, while three smaller units add thousands of feet of various pipes and waste lines. George Wright and associates note the large Life Science project includes miles of duriron and galvanized lines, and the U shaped dormitory project requires extensive steam and water piping, drains, and numerous fixtures.
