The Illinois Supreme Court ruled on division of marital property in divorces, upholding joint ownership unless evidence shows nonshared investment. It also allowed fingerprints to convict in burglaries where circumstantial evidence is strong, and held that arson investigators need a warrant absent an emergency, in a Virden case.

State cannot question parents of Siamese twins in neglect case
Danville AP report says authorities could not question Dr. Robert Mueller or his wife Pamela as lawyers held a recess. Twins born May 5 share a lower digestive system and were taken into protective custody May 13 after claims of inadequate care during an eight day Danville hospital stay. Nurses testified they fed one twin despite orders and did not chart it.

Two Convicted of Triple Murder in East St. Louis
Two men Jimmy Lee Smith and Lee Otis Griffin were found guilty in Circuit Court of three counts of murder and related charges for a February slaying in an East St. Louis apartment. Victims were Kristi Smith 18 Ronald Walker 20 and Charlies Sims 39. Surviving witness Charles Kellick 37 identified the attackers. Sentencing set for July 15 by Judge John J Hoban.
