Debbie Stone a Pinckneyville High senior was crowned prom queen. She is daughter of Mr and Mrs Jack Stone of Pinckneyville. The prom took place May 19.
John M. Moorman of Metropolis and Kathryn J. Benes of Carbondale received the Daisy Powell Memorial Scholarships for 1973-74 at Southern Illinois University. Each $400 stipend aids undergraduates. criteria include academics, need, and political interest.
The Carbondale Park District hosts open recreation at the Community Building 208 W. Elm St 7 to 10 p m on select Tuesdays Sundays Fridays and Saturdays each month. Karate classes for ages 6 to 9th grade and high school students run at 116 N Illinois Ave with Mike Wadiak. Marion Youth Center also offers karate Tuesdays 4 to 5 30 p m for elementary and high school pupils.
Jim Seed of Hayes Fair Acres says the Du Quoin State Fair will host more educational displays than any other state fair. NASA exhibits include a moon rock, space suit, models of a space sky laboratory and a command ship. A lamp display dating to 100 B.C. will be shown, with contributions from Fort De Chartres and SIU International Students.

Everett Blackwell son of Mr and Mrs Richard Blackwell of Murphysboro will be installed master councilor of the M F Harmon Chapter Order of DeMolay in Murphysboro tonight at 8 o clock in the Masonic Temple at 12th and Chestnut streets. Preceding officers include Danny Baker Barry Davis and Gene Schwebel with a list of other new and former officers assisting the ceremony. Also mentioned is a note about the Appalachian Trail running through 14 states and several protected areas.
