A 57 year old West Frankfort man died in a two car crash west of West Frankfort at 8 10 p m. George A Lingafelter of Hurst faces charges including driving on a suspended license felony DUI and operating an uninsured vehicle. Lingafelter previously faced DUI and suspended license charges in 1997. He was treated for minor injuries then jailed and awaiting initial court appearance.
Jamie Fraser, a 27 year old Austin native, travels from Williamsburg Virginia to Florence Oregon on a 4500 mile cross country trek to raise funds and awareness for cystic fibrosis. Fraser started May 5 and plans to end August 4. He has already helped raise about forty thousand dollars and travels 60 to 70 miles daily with Adventure Cycling Club members alongside. Fraser was diagnosed with CF at age two and hopes his journey inspires others facing the disease.

Marion City Council approved a program by Marion Main Street to back part of loan interest for businesses moving to or expanding in the Main Street district. Participating firms must borrow up to 100000 from city banks, with the city paying 2 percent interest and safeguards against default.
Two major Marion road projects face delays due to a wet spring. Redco Drive into REDCO industrial park is about two weeks behind and unlikely to finish before mid July. Bainbridge Trail Road remains ahead of schedule and should open in early August, well before the hospital’s October opening.
