Carterville approves a 45 acre city park plan with a fishing lake, trails, a swimming pool, nature areas and a ball diamond. Land clearance will begin, funds sought from state and federal agencies, with construction over four to five years.
Blairsville tavern remains open until June 24 as the Illinois Liquor Control Commission reviews a suspension. A 10 a.m. hearing is planned at the Court of Claims Building in Springfield. Commissioner Curtis Palmer suspended the license after complaints of selling to minors noise and traffic. Owner Jimmie Loyd appealed the decision and can operate until the appeal is resolved.
The Stonefort Village Board on Tuesday appropriated 16470 for expenses in the year starting May 1. Village Clerk William McCabe said the appropriation ordinance will be displayed publicly throughout May. The largest grant, 5750, funds fire department and village offices construction, though McCabe did not confirm plans for the coming year. About 2000 goes to the fire department's equipment rental.
Mayor John Tomanovich appointed Earl Council to a four year term and Robert Johns to a two year term on the Orient Village Board with board approval. Both are Ward Two appointees as no candidates filed for the April 7 election. About 10 write-in votes occurred but no term designation was recorded.
