Military head would resign under Reagan

Washington Star reports Gen. David Jones, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, privately agreed to resign if Ronald Reagan is elected. He would be confirmed for a second term but serve only six months unless Carter is re-elected. Sen. John Warner brokered a deal ensuring confirmation with resignation upcoming.

Californians reject Prop 9 tax cut and gay discrimination ban

California voters repudiated Howard Jarvis style tax cuts defeating Proposition 9 by a 5 to 3 margin. In Santa Clara County residents backed anti discrimination measures by more than two to one. Voters also approved a constitutional amendment shielding reporters sources and notes from disclosure while other measures failed amid costly campaigns.
