Anna delays study of shopping complex impact
The Anna City Council postponed forming a nine member committee to study the economic impact of a proposed downtown shopping complex after Mayor Ferrell forgot the appointee list. Plans for a $346,000 federal grant to assist Kellams Roves development were scrapped amid downtown merchants' opposition. The council will revisit grant submission in late August and set a June 17 date to appoint the committee.

Anna Farmers Market Opens Second Season At Park
The Anna Farmers Market opened its second season with one grower present and plans to run weekly on Tuesdays at 4 pm in the city park. Grower Marvin Clutts says more farmers will join in about two weeks, attracted by the time and location change. Grand jury in Jackson to wrap seven criminal investigations
A Jackson County grand jury convened to tie up loose ends on seven cases. One target is an 86 year old Carbon Dale woman accused of shooting an intruder in her home on March 31. Isaac Z. Fulciley, 39, lay in serious but stable condition after being shot. Elsie Steele faces two shots from a .32 revolver at her Conner Street home. The panel may work a day or longer if witnesses are called. The jury will also inspect the jail in its annual review.
