Dairy Inspection Hard Work for Area Farmers
Farm life notes concentration of dairies in the area. Dairy cows require more medical attention than beef due to milk production. Miller recalls pushing an inspection program five years ago but it didn’t catch on. He charges about 1 per cow inspected depending on distance from his Murphysboro clinic. About 20 an hour is the right pay for this work. Rickenberg adds that dairy farming is hard dirty work as the last cow is checked.
