The Church of God in Carbondale plans a $100,000 building on a three acre tract on New Era road, one and a half miles north of Rt. 13. The sanctuary seats 165 with a 90 seat fellowship room, ten classrooms, a chapel and baptistry.

A motor parade of Vacation Bible School participants from Herrin churches begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Methodist Church parking lot. Sponsored by the Herrin Ministerial Association, the parade will award a traveling trophy for the best float last year won by Second Baptist Church.
A rummage sale is set for today and Saturday at the Herrin Girl Scout Cabin. Hours are 4 to 9 p m today and 8 a m to noon Saturday. Frances Tallen Missionary Circle of the Herrin First Church of God leads the event.
Campus Minister Marvin Silliman of Kanka kee has been awarded a campus ministry internship in Carbondale. He will work with the Student Christian Foundation at Southern Illinois University beginning in September. He is a senior at the College of the Bible, Lexington, Ky. His wife, Lucille, is director of religious education for the First Christian Church, Carbondale.
The Rev. John L. Sauerhage, Congregation of the Mission, was ordained to the priesthood in Chicago on May 27 for the Vincentian Fathers. A former Murphysboro resident, he is son of Mrs. Genevieve McPherson Sauerhage and the late John L. Sauerhage. He studied at Vincentian minor seminary Cape Girardeau and St. Marys Perryville, earned a De Paul University MA in English, and finished at De Andreis Lemont. His first Mass was May 30 in Springfield, followed by a dinner and reception. He will soon go to Tucson to teach English and direct studies at Regina Cleri Seminary.
The Wesley Foundation in Carbondale holds a spring dinner this evening at 7 p.m. with the theme Fantasy in Music. The event includes installation of new officers and tickets are $1.25 per plate at the foundation.
Reverend Bert Sanders of Forges will be guest speaker at the Herrin Flying Squadron service Sunday at 2 p m. The event takes place at 1300 South 16th Street and the public is invited.
The Illinois Synod of the Lutheran Church in America meets Monday through Thursday in Rock Island with over 200 delegates and pastors attending. The gathering occurs in Centennial Hall at Augustana College, with Rev. Franklin Clark Fry presiding and the LCA president delivering a guest sermon at the ordination service. Dr. G Elson Ruff will speak at the convention dinner, and Rev. Oscar A. Benson serves as chaplain.
Max Sullivan a former Murphysboro resident will be ordained at the Illinois Synod Convention in Rock Island. He is a 1951 Murphysboro Township High School and 1960 Carthage College graduate with a May Lutheran School of Theology Chicago degree. He will speak at First Lutheran Murphysboro services June 20 and a dinner will honor the family before he begins mission work in Cape Girardeau Missouri on July 1.

Six youths will take confirmation vows at First Lutheran Church Murphysboro on Sunday. The confirmands are Karen Jacquot David Jacquot Joyce Maddox David Porter Janice Purcell and Sharon Reiman. Holy Communion will be celebrated at 8 a m and 10 30 a m.
Edward L. Adams Jr. will speak on unemployment problems at the Unitarian Fellowship in Carbondale at 10 30 a m Sunday The topic is Using Our Abundance Adams is a doctoral candidate at Southern Illinois University and regional supervisor of unemployment compensation for the state.
The International Convention of the Church of God opens June 14 in Anderson Indiana. About 25 000 people are expected to attend the six day event at the Anderson venue with sessions and programs announced by organizers.
