Sparta Horse Show Shines At Memorial Day Event
A Sparta Memorial Day horse show drew several hundred and featured 73 entries. Top honors went to Miss Young of Colp Stock Farm for two pony divisions and the five gaited class. Bob Cronin, despite a disability, won the speed race and placed in the musical chair race. The Randolph County Saddle and Bridle Club presented the fifth annual event with $2000 prize money upcoming July 8 at Sparta Fairgrounds.

Vienna High School grants largest class in history
The Vienna High School graduated eight students in the largest class to date. Assistant state superintendent C. C. Byerly delivered the commencement address as the orchestra performed two numbers and the vocal trio sang. Salutatorian Vernell Williams and valedictorian Garnett Gray accepted diplomas. The Sparta show featured Western horse events with Rocky winning the Western Pleasure riding class, and Pony class honors going to Peggy Young with Fire Ball.
