Conference pits GOP against Metro-East arts center bills
Illinois House Republicans oppose companion measures to build a Metro-East Performing Arts Center arguing tax revenues would be diverted. Senator Sam Vadalabene says the plan redirects horse racing tax proceeds to finance up to 15 million dollars in bonds while a separate fund would service debt. The bills aim to create an Exposition Authority and a dedicated revenue fund but face uphill votes in a Republican chamber.

Senate Republicans question timing and control, suggesting surplus funds would shift to the Metro East fund after 1976 and denounce the bills as political moves.
