Bids Placed For New Car And Sidewalk Work In Carbondale
Carbondale City Council received bids Tuesday night for a new police car to replace a 1980 model and for sidewalk work near Sears Roebuck and Co and the Ben Franklin Store. Wall Street traffic speeds restricted in Carbondale
Public Safety Commissioner A E Ramsey told the City Council that an investigation into residents complaints supports limiting speeds on Wall Street and Glenview Drive. Wall Street may be 30 mph and Glenview 25 mph in residential areas, with a 25 mph limit by ordinance. 30 mph enforcement will be watched closely. A home built by the Egypt area Home Builders Association, funded by a youth design contest, will be placed in Pine Wood subdivision on Tower Road to fund a scholarship. The council also accepted a 330 check from Yellow Cab for renewing licenses and approved streets to be improved under a 1.465 million bond issue. Carbondale Police reported 979 calls, 347 complaints, 61 traffic arrests, and 62 city accidents for May, with 8,704 miles patrolled and 47 escorts for funerals and events.

SIU Final Exams Start Thursday at SIU
