Perry County teeters on bill payments amid insurance debate
Perry County treasurer Tibretta Bigham-Reiman said with 124,694 on hand and roughly 26,000 in bills plus a 95,000 payroll due June 7 the county has under 4,000 spare. Expected revenues totaling about 84,000 from income tax photo processing and use taxes should arrive by June 14, with another 65,000 in supplemental sales and safety taxes around June 7. The county faces health insurance funding strains as it remains partially self insured while cash runs thin and many bills go unpaid. The board weighed bids from Blue Cross Blue Shield Fortis and self insurance options while local agents discussed. A potential 42,000 premium deposit requirement complicates bids and ongoing coverage. In other business Commissioner Don Siefert’s resignation was rescinded then considerations for compensation upon retirement were noted. An ordinance to double some deed recording fees was approved to cover clerk questions under the Plat Act and Subdivision Ordinance.
