Fernald School gives troubled youth new path at UCLA campus
The Fernald School on the UCLA campus offers 65 to 70 students from troubled public schools a two year program blending elementary to high school classes with individualized psychology based instruction. Under director Howard Adelman the facility emphasizes autonomous learning, discovery labs, and aging into regular classrooms with UCLA involvement. Students may graduate by high school equivalency or return to public schools, with tuition noted at 2900 dollars and state funding supporting those who cannot access standard services. Ingrid 18 says the program feels like a family and a chance to learn about herself.
