In Andover Connecticut a weekly fluoride mouth rinse program runs for 299 students, with 277 parental permissions. The program began in March and will continue indefinitely due to the town water supply being unflouridated.
The Herrin Jaycees invite kindergarten and first grade girls from area schools to enter an annual Little Miss Herrin Contest. Contestants must sell $100 in raffle tickets, with tickets at three for $1, and the winner selects $300 or a washer and dryer. The event, based on talent and swimsuit appearance, will be held July 12 at the Summer Carnival. Proceeds go to community youth programs. Contact Jack Mueth at 942-6758 for entry blanks.
Economy minded patrons in beauty shops are doing their own dyeing and styling to save money. Salons report patrons set hair after dye in coat rooms for a five dollar fee, borrow manicurists tools under dryers, and sometimes tip for product usage. Operators fear the trend could grow into full do it yourself salons as prices rise and customers seek cuts in services.
Mr and Mrs Gilbert Grieves of Elkville celebrate fifty years of marriage with an open house at Elkville Christian Church from 2 to 5 pm on Saturday. They wed June 6 1925 in Cairo. Grieves, retired coal miner and space flight machinist, have four children James Sepulveda Bill Mount Vernon and Mary Ann Oller and seven grandchildren.
