Refugee camps offer no freedom for some
Cuban refugees arriving in the United States face prolonged processing and tense camps. In Florida and other sites, many hope to reunite with families or gain work, but delays, health and security checks, and unclear sponsorship slow resettlement. Camp Liberty at Eglin hosts about 8,000, with Fort Chaffee and Fort Indiantown Gap also housing thousands amid frayed tempers and dispersed relatives.
