Rose Hotel's 163 Year Saga Highlighted in Illinois History
Ben Gelman notes James A. Durham of Benton High School won a $25 prize for a historical article on The Picturesque Rose Hotel in Elizabethtown. The Rose Hotel, built in 1812, survived the 1937 Ohio River flood and a 1972 windstorm, and is listed on the National Register but no longer operates as a hotel.

Clarence W Stephens professor emeritus at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will be awarded the honorary doctor of humane letters at SIU Edwardsville commencement on June 13.
