History of Herrin reveals a colorful city saga
The Herrin Chamber of Commerce has printed a one page booklet by TeeRey Brandon detailing Herrin’s early history. It covers a sleeping alderman, the opening of the Opera House in 1904, mine whistles signaling work, Lombard and other immigrant communities, and a city’s rapid growth from village to incorporated city amid coal booms and civic efforts.
