SIU Scene Details Summer Plays at New Salem Park
SIU Players tour New Salem State Park this summer for the Lincolnland Drama Festival presenting Prologue to Glory July 26 to August 21 with six Our American Cousin performances. Outdoor Kelso Hollow Theater hosts 8 p.m. shows featuring performers from nine colleges and 76 countries.

Funeral services for James Davis in Ava
Funeral services for James Davis 82 of Ava are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home Ava with the Rev. Paul Holder officiating. Burial follows at Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Davis died Monday at St Joseph Memorial Hospital after an apparent heart attack. He was born Nov 16 1883 in Kinkaid Township Jackson County to Thomas A Davis and Elizabeth Casteel Davis. He married Emily E Bagley in Murphysboro Oct 31 1912. Davis was a retired farmer and is survived by his wife a son Grover of Ava three grandchildren and one great grandson. Four brothers and five sisters preceded him in death. Friends may call at the funeral home.
