Chicago prices show soybeans slipping while grains mostly ease. Wheat for September drops to 3.23 and a quarter dollars, September corn slips to 2.23, oats rise to 1.28 and a quarter, August soybeans fall to 6.69.
Investors drove the Nasdaq and S&P 500 to fresh yearly lows as weak earnings outlooks shadowed two large mergers. Dow fell to its lowest close since May 20 while housing shows strength but failed to lift market sentiment.
Dow Jones Industrial Average finishes at 9,961.92, down 0.30. S&P 500 at 1,084.07 falls 2.13, Nasdaq up 10.07 to 1,839.02. NYSE composite drops to 6,297.64 with volume around 1.71 billion. 3,406 issues traded, 2,192 down, 1,072 up, 142 unchanged. Wilshire 5000 declines 42.30 to 10,511.52.
The dollar gave back some gains in a subdued session as traders paused for direction after last week's rally sparked by Greenspan's semiannual Congressional testimony. He called the U.S. economy broadly recovering and self-sustaining, signaling gradual rate increases. The euro fell below 1.21, its lowest since late June.

Today's Illinois direct hog purchases totaled 15 982 with steady price trends and moderate demand. hogs 300 to 600 pounds mainly 46.00 to 53.00, over 600 pounds 50.00 to 53.00. Bears for under 300 pounds 35.00 to 40.00, over 300 pounds 10.00 to 16.00.
