Swanwick Bethel Cemetery and Picnic nostalgia in Perry County

Swanwick Bethel Cemetery east of Swanwick in Perry County serves 150 years of local burials and 24 Civil War veterans. The annual Swanwick Picnic supports cemetery upkeep with deep community roots traced to 1947 church founding, a 1850 Bethel Associate Presbyterian Church, and a revival after 1910 lightning fire. The piece notes historic growth around coal mining, prior platted town status in 1871, and a 1935 picnic success raising funds, with continued tradition mentioned for a future page.
