University Mall seeks major expansion in Carbondale
Developer plans to rezone 14 acres south of the University Mall to planned business to allow 152000 extra square feet. A two story 102000 square foot department store and 14000 square feet of 14 small shops would be built with 25000 foot buildings on either side of a central aisle. Construction would start after design and rezoning approval, with completion anticipated in three years.

Hanafi Moslems convicted in Washington takeover
Twelve Hanafi Moslems were found guilty on multiple counts including armed kidnapping and second-degree murder for the siege of three downtown buildings in Washington last March. Lead defendant Hamaas Abdul- Khallis and several followers were convicted as the all black jury deliberated 19 hours over four days.
