University Mall seeks major expansion in Carbondale

Developer plans to rezone 14 acres south of the University Mall to planned business to allow 152000 extra square feet. A two story 102000 square foot department store and 14000 square feet of 14 small shops would be built with 25000 foot buildings on either side of a central aisle. Construction would start after design and rezoning approval, with completion anticipated in three years.

Parolee Arrested In Connecticut Family Mass Murder

Prospect Connecticut reports a 28 year old parolee Lorte J Acquin was arrested on nine counts of murder in the killings of the Beaudoin family. The victims include Cheryl Beaudoin and seven children plus a visiting cousin Jennifer Santora. Autopsies cite blunt force head injuries and smoke inhalation as causes.

Hanafi Moslems convicted in Washington takeover

Twelve Hanafi Moslems were found guilty on multiple counts including armed kidnapping and second-degree murder for the siege of three downtown buildings in Washington last March. Lead defendant Hamaas Abdul- Khallis and several followers were convicted as the all black jury deliberated 19 hours over four days. Sentencing set for Sept. 6. bail revoked. all 12 defendants ordered jailed. The case followed a 39 hour hostage ordeal that left one dead and several others ill or injured.

Egypt Libya clash escalates with air raids across Libya
