Tractor trailer leaves road into woods near U S 51
A tractor trailer driven by Darryl Tabok swerved to avoid a minivan at the U S 51 and old U S 51 intersection and ran into a wooded ditch in Makanda Township. The crash spilled diesel and prompted Jackson County firefighters to deploy foam for clean up while two occupants of the minivan and Dagmar Taylor were hospitalized. Fire crews endured extreme heat as they worked, rotating 15 minute shifts to control the gasoline vapors and prevent a flare up. Investigators remain on scene.
