Doctor Shipman’s killings linked to addictive urge to kill
Coroner suggests Peter Sutcliffe style killer fascination with death. Shipman, 56, already serving 15 life terms, faced no new trials. First victim Eva Lyons died in 1975. Shipman began practice in Todmorden in 1974 before moving to Hyde in 1977. Shipman’s charm masked arrogance and in one case he said a cancer patient would not get Easter eggs. Christopher Rudd recalls his father, murdered by Shipman, admired him.
