Change of venue denied in Perry County sex assault case
A Tamaroa man, James E. Joseph Jr., will face a Perry County jury on August 16 after Judge James Campanella denied a defense motion for change of venue. The judge warned a final ruling could come if a fair jury cannot be seated, while multiple motions on evidence, testimony, and prior acts were scheduled for August 3 pretrial. Joseph is charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, attempted aggravated robbery, predatory criminal sexual assault, and two counts of aggravated kidnapping involving a 20 year old woman and two 10 year old girls. He has prior convictions in St. Clair County and is jailed on $75,000 bond. He formerly lived in Tamaroa with a Perry County wife who divorced after his arrest.

Mount Vernon police launch a wide search for Emmanuel D. Garrett a 25 year old St. Louis man suspected in the Saturday morning shooting of Defence Moss. Moss died after being shot several times at 17th and Lamar streets with paramedics failing to save him.
