Foster care contracts stay amid court ruling in Illinois

Catholic Social Services of Southern Illinois will continue to administer foster care for abused and neglected children after Sangamon County Judge John Schmidt granted a temporary injunction. The ruling preserves contracts for Springfield, Peoria and Joliet Catholic Charities programs pending an August hearing, despite letters from the state saying contracts could not proceed under a new civil unions law. The Belleville program affiliated with the diocese was not a plaintiff. The state could not immediately say if the ruling affects the Belleville contracts.
