Lost teens rescued in Little Grand Canyon
Four teenage boys were found safe after getting lost in the Little Grand Canyon of Shawnee National Forest. Illinois IDNR Sgt. Tony Rendleman credited quick response by officers, firefighters, and deputies, noting the youths waited for help after departing the parking lot without proper gear. They had left around 7 p.m. and became disoriented as darkness fell.

Altgeld Hall gains 56000 square feet after 13.4 million renovation
SIU Carbondale completes a three year move back to a refurbished Altgeld Hall housing the School of Music. The 1896 building adds 22,000 square feet for a total of 56,000 with soundproofed rooms, rehearsal halls, percussion space, recording area and 300 instrument lockers. Director Robert Weiss calls the facility among the best for its size and function.

Health scare hospitals former U S Rep Ken Gray
Former U S Representative Ken Gray suffered a medical scare after experiencing a brief blackout at home in West Frankfort. He was rushed to Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion for evaluation after a CAT scan and MRI were performed and no new damage found. Gray cited a failed local clinic and urged an emergency room in West Frankfort, noting delays and ambulance response.

Bleyer named Williamson County circuit court judge
Marion attorney Brad Bleyer, 48, was appointed to replace Paul Murphy as Williamson County Circuit Court justice. He will begin Aug. 16 after Illinois Supreme Court approval. Bleyer, with 20 years in Southern Illinois law, said the role shifts from representing clients to applying the law fairly and right. He and his wife Valeri have two sons, Dan and Jacob, and his private practice will close.
